Who we are
PlantHere is run by Brush Hunter Topco LLC, a Texas limited liability company (Texas SOS file 806761491), 2 Applewood Ct., The Hills, TX 78738. “We” and “us” mean that company.
The free plant finder
When you open PlantHere, your browser downloads the plant database — the same files for every visitor — and does all the ranking itself. Nothing you enter is sent to us to produce your results.
- ZIP code and conditions. Used in your browser to look up your county, zone and ecoregion. Not sent to us.
- Sun photos. When you add a photo to a sun check, your browser opens it locally and measures how bright it is, so we can flag “marked sun, but the photo looks shaded.” The photo is never uploaded. We never see it, and it is gone when you close the page.
- No account. The finder has no sign-up and never asks for your name or email.
The “Wrong plant?” button
This is the one part of the free finder that sends anything to us. When you use it, we store:
- the plant you flagged and the reason you picked;
- the ZIP code you entered;
- the conditions you chose (sun, watering, deer, evergreen, in-stock) and your area’s ecoregion;
- a short note, if one is included (280 characters at most);
- the date and time; and
- a scrambled fragment of your IP address (a one-way hash). It lets us notice one source flagging fifty plants in a minute; it does not tell us who you are.
Your full IP address is held briefly in server memory to stop flooding, and is not saved with the record. Records go to our database (Supabase) or, where that is not set up, to our hosting provider’s server logs. We use them only to fix the plant data.
Cookies, analytics and tracking
PlantHere sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser’s local storage. We run no analytics, no advertising, no tracking pixels and no session recording. We do not sell or share personal information, and we never will for advertising.
Services we rely on
- Vercel hosts the site. Like any web host, it records basic request information — IP address, browser type, the page requested — in its server logs, and keeps those logs under its own policies.
- Google Fonts supplies the typefaces. Your browser fetches them from Google, which means Google sees your IP address and browser type for that request.
- Supabase stores feedback records, and later the paid-feature records described below.
- Plant photos are stored on our own site and credited to their iNaturalist photographers. Clicking one opens iNaturalist, whose own privacy policy then applies.
Paid features (when they are available)
The paid site survey is not switched on yet. This section describes what will happen when it is. We will update this policy before anything here changes.
- Your photos. You upload one to three photos of your site. They are sent to Anthropic, whose AI model reads them along with your ZIP and conditions and our list of suitable plants. We do not save your photos; they are used for that one analysis and discarded when it finishes. Anthropic handles them under its commercial terms, which do not allow it to train its models on them, and keeps them only for a limited period. Please don’t upload photos of people.
- A usage record for each survey. Your ZIP, your IP address, how long the survey took, its computing cost and how many plants it returned. We use this to control cost and stop abuse.
- Payments. Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card number. We keep your email address, the plan you bought, your remaining survey credits, your Stripe customer ID and a record of each purchase, so we can apply credits, enforce plan limits and handle refunds.
How long we keep things
Feedback records are kept while they are useful for improving the plant data. Hosting logs are kept by Vercel under its own retention schedule. Payment and purchase records are kept as long as tax and accounting law requires.
Your choices
You can use the whole free finder without sending us anything — just don’t tap “Wrong plant?”. You can ask us what we hold about you, or ask us to delete it, by emailing hello@plant-here.com. Because the free finder never learns who you are, we usually cannot match a feedback record to a person; tell us the ZIP and roughly when, and we will do our best. For paid features, we can find your records by the email you paid with.
Children
PlantHere is meant for adults planning a yard. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you think a child has sent us something, contact us (below) and we will delete it.
Security
The site is served over encrypted connections. Your browser never talks to our database directly; only our server does. No system is perfectly secure, but we keep very little, which is the best protection there is.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. If we start collecting something new, we will change this page before we do.
